Equity Markets & the Global Economy: Today & Tomorrow
NIRI San Diego to Host Event with Frank M. Hatheway, Ph.D., Chief Economist of the NASDAQ OMX Group on May 21, 2013
SAN DIEGO, May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The San Diego Chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) will host an event with NASDAQ OMX Chief Economist Frank M. Hatheway, Ph.D., who will discuss the current status and future prospects for the equity markets and the global economy on the evening of Tuesday, May 21.
Understanding the complexities and subtleties of today's equity markets has never been so daunting. The "street signs" we use to guide our decision-making, and inform our viewpoints, seem to change by the minute. And when you throw in macroeconomic dynamics like sequestration, the debt ceiling and the recent gold crash, we're all left looking for answers.
That's why NIRI San Diego is particularly pleased and excited to welcome Frank M. Hatheway, Ph.D., Chief Economist of the NASDAQ OMX Group. Dr. Hatheway is responsible for a variety of projects and initiatives to support the markets and improve market structure. Since joining NASDAQ OMX, he has carried out a number of studies on NASDAQ and other markets, developed NASDAQ's opening and closing auctions, and advised on major corporate initiatives such as the launch of the NASDAQ Options Market and NASDAQ OMX Europe. Dr. Hatheway has served as an Economic Fellow and Senior Research Scholar with the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission and received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University.
Dr. Hatheway will discuss his perspectives on the current economic climate, trends affecting the equity markets and what it means for issuers. Topics will include:
- An overview of the relationship between the markets and the ever-changing global economy
- How to read the latest market indicators
- An analysis of the near-term IPO outlook and
- Capital formation in today's environment
Please join NIRI San Diego for what will prove to be a highly informative, educational and riveting discussion.
Refreshments, wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
