Esimit Europa 2: Synergy as Recipe for Success

PORTO CERVO, Sardinia, Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- This year's edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup offered everything that sailing in high performance could offer. It was a week of competitive racing between 45 yachts, spiced with extremely light and very strong winds, when only the best daily strategies and tactics ensured daily victories. Esimit Europa 2, sponsored by Gazprom, took line honours on all four racing days at Sardinia's Costa Smeralda. Yacht's owner Igor Simcic and his crew, composed by the best sailors from different European countries, dedicated excellent performance to all Europeans, showing them the power of teamwork and dedication to the common goal. 

From 5th to 10th September Sardinian city Porto Cervo was flooded with supreme technology, implemented in the best maxi yachts all over the world. Yet none of those factors are enough in demanding coastal racing without perfect synergy among crew members and total devotion to the same aim. Due to variable weather conditions first ever European sport team onboard Esimit Europa 2, 30-meters maxi yacht under the patronage of Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, took their mission very seriously and showed their true skills every day. "Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is always about state of the art boat technology and teamwork. It was a week of challenges and I am happy that we managed to combine them in the best way we could. I would like to dedicate these excellent results to all fellow European citizens, who believe in this project. "Unpredictable conditions from very strong winds to dead calms have marked this year's regatta. Every day the course took us to north-eastern part of Sardinia, as well as through the Maddalena passage known also as the bomb alley which is a true sailing experience known for good breeze and demanding manoeuvres around the rocks, representing turning marks at the same time. On each course we had some exciting upwind legs and with the new giant spinnaker 'For Europe' we have reached a good boat speed on downwind legs. We made some really good choices on wind shift having prepared every morning before the race the right equipment and appropriate sails," added Juan Vila, Esimit Europa 2's navigator.

Next on the schedule for Esimit Europa 2 is the Bernetti Lombardini Cup (2nd October), followed by the famous Barcolana regatta (9th October) and Rolex Middle Sea Race (22nd October).
