eSpatial has said that it has experienced a substantial upsurge in queries about its online mapping software as the discontinuation date for MapPoint approaches.
Microsoft announced in July that it would discontinue MapPoint from 31st of December 2014 - although it will continue to provide support for the product until at least July 2015.
eSpatial was quick off the mark when Microsoft made the July announcement, publishing a blog on the same day, positioning itself as an alternative to MapPoint. That post and a recent update appear to have given eSpatial a jump on the competition.
Philip O'Doherty, CEO with eSpatial, says that interest in his company's software as an alternative to MapPoint - especially from business users - has been increasing at an exponential rate.

O'Doherty believes that eSpatial mapping software will be even more attractive to existing MapPoint business users after a free software update in early December.
The update will add a range of new features to eSpatial, including Optimized Routing, additional Heat Map capabilities, expanded team collaboration options and the ability to create customized boundaries.
