BERWYN, Ill., June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) and City of Berwyn are pleased announce the Grand Opening of Culver's, a Midwestern-based quick-casual restaurant known for its famous ButterBurgers® and fresh Frozen Custard, located at 6943 W Roosevelt Road in Berwyn, Illinois.

In 2010, the BDC assembled six properties to make way for the new Culver's location. Through the support of the City of Berwyn and the BDC, Guy and Kathy Hollis utilized Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for land acquisition, demolition, and site work. Anthony Griffin, BDC Executive Director, stated, "After we established a relationship with Culver's, we began negotiating with three property owners and were able to come to an agreement with them within a few months." He continued, "We worked with the City to draft a redevelopment agreement for the land acquisition, which made Culver's our latest achievement in the revitalization of Roosevelt Road." The new construction project filled a string of existing vacancies at the site and attracted a new franchise into Berwyn, which created 75 new jobs. An operating business was relocated to another vacant storefront along Roosevelt Road.

Mayor Robert Lovero was on hand to cut the ribbon to the new 4,200 square foot store and remarked, "After several years of negotiating, I am proud to be here with Guy and Kathy at the finish line. Roosevelt Road has had many accomplishments in the past few years, which has resulted in our ability to attract high quality establishments such as Culver's." Alderman Nora Laureto added, "The streetscape improvement project has been an important component in our plans to transform Roosevelt Road into a more inviting corridor for our residents. The completion of Culver's has brought a burst of energy into those plans not to mention a great new family-friendly spot."

Guy Hollis, the Culver's franchisee, has owned and operated Culver's locations since 2004. Currently, Guy operates three locations in Bridgeview, Lyons, and the newly opened Roosevelt Road store. The Berwyn store is the closest location to the City of Chicago.
