Experience Rutgers: Climate Change Brings Global Climate Discussion to Three Major Cities

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Feb. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Rutgers University Alumni Association has launched an informative and engaging series on climate change in three cities: New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Experience Rutgers: Climate Change features panel discussions with Rutgers University president Robert Barchi and three influential Rutgers scientists who are leading groundbreaking research on the earth's climate and how climate change is affecting life on the planet. Speakers include:

Benjamin P. Horton, professor, Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences - Benjamin P. Horton is a professor in the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers. His research on sea-level rise was referenced in a slide on the White House website during a live stream of President Obama's State of the Union address on January 20. His research aims to understand and integrate the external and internal mechanisms that have determined sea-level change in the past and which will shape change in the future.

Jennifer A. Francis, research professor, Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences- Jennifer A. Francis, who has been a research professor at Rutgers' since 1994, teaches courses in satellite remote sensing and climate-change issues in the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences. Her research focuses on Arctic climate change and Arctic-global climate links, and she co-founded and co-directed the Rutgers Climate and Environmental Change Initiative.

Scott M. Glenn, distinguished professor, Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences - Scott M. Glenn is a distinguished professor in the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers. He has more than 35 years of experience in ocean science and engineering research, including the development of new ocean observation technologies and forecast models for extreme environments and events, which focus on improved understanding of storms and hurricanes.
