Fairmount Minerals' William E. Conway Honored As 2013 Mayo Person Of The Year
Company Founder and Chairman Emeritus Recognized During Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland Annual Ball
CHESTERLAND, Ohio, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fairmount Minerals is pleased to announce company Founder and Chairman Emeritus, William E. Conway, was honored as the 2013 Mayo Person of the Year Saturday, October 12, during the 2013 Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland Annual Ball.
The Mayo Society's mission is to promote cultural, charitable, scientific, and/or literary exchanges between the people of the United States and Ireland with particular emphasis on County Mayo, on the research into the life and times of Irish immigrants to America, and the study of Irish and Irish-American history.
"I am pleased to receive this recognition from the Mayo Society," stated Mr. Conway. "My father was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1892, shortly after my grandparent's immigration from County Mayo, Ireland. The strong family and community support values that I strive to live by come from both these cultures and are a part of my deeply rooted heritage in these regions. This makes this acknowledgment especially gratifying to me."
Conway has developed an impressive legacy of his own in the greater Cleveland area. In addition to establishing Fairmount Minerals Ltd., headquartered in Chesterland, a Cleveland suburb, he has provided time, talent, and treasure to many northeast Ohio organizations, such as University School in Cleveland, Cleveland Botanical Garden, United Way, and numerous others.
Adding to his list of numerous business and civic accomplishments, in 1996, Mr. Conway was honored with the Dively Entrepreneurship Award from Harvard Business School Club of northeast Ohio. He was named Master Entrepreneur of the Year in northeast Ohio in 1993, an award cosponsored by Inc. Magazine, Ernst & Young, and Merrill Lynch. In May 2011, Mr. Conway was honored by Cleveland State University with an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration and, in 2009, he was inducted into the Inside Business - Business Hall of Fame.
