Fattah Announces $1 Million in Arts and Humanities Grants to Philadelphia Cultural Institutions

WASHINGTON, Dec. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) announced today that both the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) have awarded 21 separate grants to arts organizations, museums, and cultural institutions in his Philadelphia-area district. Combined, the organizations will receive a total of $998,287 to support efforts ranging from artifact conservation to student musician workshops, and funding for several new art and dance exhibitions throughout the community.

The Philadelphia Cultural Alliance estimates that arts and cultural organizations in Pennsylvania's Second Congressional District have a total economic impact of $1.9 billion, which generates jobs, household income, and tax revenue.

The NEH grants were awarded to St. Joseph's University and the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA). CCAHA will receive a grant for $349,887 to support preservation services.  The St. Joseph's University grant of $50,400 will support a professor's fellowship in advanced humanities research.

• Philadelphia Dance Company ($50,000)
• Philadelphia Museum of Art ($55,000)
• PlayPenn, Inc ($10,000)
• Print Center ($25,000)
• Scribe Video Center ($60,000)
