Fattah to Participate in Health Expo Saturday, Indian Community Outreach Event Sunday in Philadelphia
WASHINGTON, Oct. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This weekend in Philadelphia, Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) will join the community at two events; Saturday, he will participate in Radio One's "Be Healthy!" Expo, and on Sunday he will join Philadelphia's Indian community in welcoming Ambassador Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay to the region.
Saturday's health expo is designed to inform and educate Philadelphia's African American community on health issues facing minorities in the Delaware Valley. The event at Audenried Charter High School is free and open to the public. It will feature health screenings and the opportunity to meet with healthcare professionals. Congressman Fattah participated in this event last year and has long championed initiatives to increase awareness around minority health disparities; he was instrumental in the reauthorization of the Office of Minority Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the creation the new Office of Minority Health (OMH) at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a department that was established by the Affordable Care Act.
On Sunday, Congressman Fattah will be the featured guest at the Council for Indian Organizations in Greater Philadelphia's Outreach Program. Fattah will join Ambassador Mulay, Consul General of India in New York, as a speaker at the event aimed at engaging and strengthening ties with the local Indian community in Philadelphia. Recently, Congressman Fattah welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States during a visit to the West Coast earlier this fall.
