Federal Program Offering Free Cell Phone and Minutes to Low-Income Kentuckians Could Brighten Their Holiday Season

DANIA, Fla., Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 350,000 low-income Kentuckians could have more money and improved quality of life by applying with Q Link Wireless to receive a free phone with free minutes through a program administered by the Federal Communications Commission.

The number of eligible Bluegrass State residents could be greater, says Issa Asad, CEO of Q Link Wireless. The company is a national provider of the Federal Lifeline Assistance Program, which helps Americans receiving federal assistance receive quality cell phone service.

A federal government study shows that only 44 percent of eligible Kentuckians have applied for the Lifeline program. "That figure jumps above 50 percent if you include people who qualify based on income," said Asad.

State residents can sign up online with Q Link Wireless. Applicants submit proof of eligibility and the company performs a detailed verification and ensures the Lifeline one-per-household rule is enforced by checking every applicant against a national database.
