DALLAS, Jan. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dallas dignitaries, the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, employees of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas), and volunteers will join Gloria Gonzales and her family to celebrate the completion of a Habitat for Humanity home at 4607 Cherbourg Street in the historic Joppa neighborhood of Dallas. Ms. Gonzales and her family will be presented with the symbolic keys to her home in a dedication ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016. The media is encouraged to attend.

The Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity has plans to build 27 homes in the Joppa neighborhood, which is located near the Trinity River in southeast Dallas. Joppa (pronounced "Joppee") traces its roots to 1872 when it was established as a Freedman's town, whose residents were freed slaves from a nearby plantation. Now it is recognized by Texas Historical Commission and is one of three remaining Freedman's communities in Texas.
