FIGARO Precise Irrigation Project to be Presented at Watec Israel 2013
Dr. Adriano Battilani will present the advantages of precise and knowledge-based irrigation based on work carried out by the EU-funded FIGARO Project
TEL AVIV, Israel, October 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The FIGARO Project (Flexible and Precise Irrigation Platform to Improve Farm Scale Water Productivity) will hold a presentation at the Watec Israel 2013 Exhibition and Conference, which will take place October 22-24, 2013 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
FIGARO will be presented by Dr. Adriano Battilani, senior researcher at the Canale Emiliano Romagnolo (CER) research institute in Bologna, Italy and a FIGARO partner. The presentation, which is part of a session on irrigation technologies for food security, will take place in Hall A3 on October 22 at 14:00.
Presenting the work undertaken by the FIGARO consortium, Dr. Battilani will talk about the "Flexible and Precision Irrigation Platform to Improve Farm Scale Water Productivity."
The presentation will focus on the advantages of precise and knowledge- based irrigation. It will show how knowledge-based irrigation can influence agricultural water productivity and its potential impact on water use in a wide range of conditions. This as an example of a project designed to address issues tightly linked to EU water policy and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
FIGARO's newly developed system is currently being field tested at nine locations across Europe and Israel. The system seamlessly integrates a number of existing software and hardware tools to provide a farm-level decision support system for growers.
By collecting environmental and crop-growth data, then feeding it into state-of-the-art agronomic models, the FIGARO system outputs precise, reliable and tailored recommendations for how and when farmers should irrigate their specific fields throughout the season. New technologies are being developed by FIGARO and will be added to the system during the second year of the four-year project.
