FirstMerit's Paul Greig Elected to ABA Board

AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Paul Greig, Chairman, President and CEO of FirstMerit Corporation (Nasdaq: FMER), has been elected to the board of directors of the American Bankers Association.  ABA's board is the association's governing body made up of CEOs from banks of all sizes.

ABA represents banks of all sizes and charters and is the voice for the nation's $14 trillion banking industry and its 2 million employees.  The association provides educational benefits and programs for its members, represents the industry in Washington and speaks on behalf of the industry in the press.

Mr. Greig joined FirstMerit Corporation in 2006 as President and Chief Executive Officer. In 2007, he was appointed Chairman of FirstMerit Corporation. He began his banking career in 1978 with American National Bank. From 1978 to 1996, he held a number of senior officer positions for American National Bank.  From 1996 to 1999, he was the executive officer for consumer banking for First Chicago Bank.  From 1999 to 2005, Mr. Greig was President and CEO of Bank One.  In 2005, he joined Charter One Bank-Illinois and served as President and CEO of Charter One Bank-Illinois, where in addition to leading banking activities in Illinois, he also ran mid-corporate commercial banking across the Mid-States Region.

Mr. Greig received a Bachelors Degree in Economics, with highest distinction, from Wheaton College and an MBA from DePaul University.  Effective January 1, 2011, he was elected to the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.
