Fish & Richardson Attorneys Named 2018 "Women Worth Watching" by Profiles in Diversity Journal

BOSTON, July 23, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Fish & Richardson attorneys Betsy Flanagan, Angela Follett, Ph.D., Christine Goddard, Ph.D., Lisa Greenwald-Swire, Martina Tyreus Hufnal and Katherine Prescott have been named recipients of the Profiles in Diversity Journal's 2018 "Women Worth Watching" award. The Fish attorneys were singled out for "leading the way to excellence in the workplace, marketplace and the world" and for helping "develop the next generation of women leaders."

Betsy Flanagan is a principal in Fish's Twin Cities office where she focuses on complex patent litigation, with an emphasis on life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceutical litigation. In April 2018, she was on the team that led and won a unanimous Federal Circuit opinion that affirmed Fish's June 2016 post-trial wipe-out of a $200 million jury verdict against client Gilead. Flanagan is the senior chairperson of Fish's Twin Cities EMPOWER women's initiative. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2008 and her B.A. in chemistry from Cornell University in 2003.

Angela Follett, Ph.D., is a principal in Fish's Twin Cities office where she focuses her national practice on patent prosecution and counseling. She is a member of the prosecution team for Loxo Oncology, who recently completed a $1.5 billion deal with Bayer. Dr. Follett does pro bono work with Immigration Equality and recently completed her second term as a member of the Board of Directors of Qué Tal, a non-profit Spanish language program. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas in 2011, her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 2006 and her B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in chemistry and biochemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2001.

Christine Goddard, Ph.D. is a principal in Fish's Boston office where she helps pharmaceutical companies develop strong patent positions on existing and future drug products. She recently took over the handling of Gilead Sciences patent portfolio for its HIV drug franchise – a portfolio valued at $13-$15 billion. Dr. Goddard is active in Women In Bio (Boston chapter) and mentors students through the Harvard Graduate Women in Science and Engineering program. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in 2010, her Ph.D. in bio-inorganic chemistry from Harvard University in 1999 and her S.B. in chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993.

Lisa Greenwald-Swire is a principal the firm's Silicon Valley office where she focuses her practice on trademark and copyright matters. She has managed over 1,500 trademark filings in the U.S., litigated seven trademark cases in district court and has been involved in over 50 TTAB proceedings. Greenwald-Swire does pro bono work for several companies including GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit organization that brings solar technology to communities that would not otherwise have access. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1999 and her B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Iota Rho, Pi Sigma Alpha, from the University of Michigan in 1994.

Martina Tyreus Hufnal is a principal based in Fish's Delaware office where she focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation in the pharmaceutical, chemical and software industries. Last year, she co-led the successful defense of a multi-million dollar case for client Microsoft against a patent assertion entity. Hufnal is also head of Fish's Next Gen Initiative, an innovative program that provides career-building "stand up" courtroom opportunities to junior lawyers. She received her J.D. from the Washington University School of Law in 2005 and her B.S.C.E. in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware in 2002.

Katherine (Katie) Prescott is of counsel in Fish's Silicon Valley office where she focuses her practice on patent and trade secret litigation with an emphasis on software, network and Internet technologies. She previously managed patent litigation in-house for a top 10 Fortune 500 consumer electronics company. She works pro bono with Kids in Need of Defense, volunteers with The CLUB (a leadership incubator for women) and is involved with Leading Women in Technology. She received her J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2001, her M.S. in civil and environmental engineering from Stanford University in 1998 and her B.A., general honors, from Johns Hopkins University in 1997.
