Fogg Law Group Secures $7.6 Million Jury Verdict in Lee County Medical Malpractice Case

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Sept. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Fogg Law Group obtained a $7.6 million verdict for their client, Rebecca Knowles. The Lee County medical malpractice case centered around a failure to recognize and treat a vascular injury secondary to a knee dislocation. Ultimately, Ms. Knowles had to have her left leg amputated above the knee.

Rebecca Knowles fell and dislocated her knee while at her residence on December 14th, 2022. In tremendous pain, she went to Cape Coral Hospital. A CTA revealed that she had a blockage of her popliteal artery, which is the artery behind the knee that sends blood to your leg and foot. 

During trial, Ms. Knowles was able to show that a popliteal artery injury from a knee dislocation is considered an emergency to one's limb. Her vascular surgery expert stated that if an artery is blocked for too long, the muscles and nerves in the leg will die.

Evidence was presented that the blockage of Ms. Knowles' artery was not addressed for a significant amount of time after she fell. Specifically, it was shown that no one examined her in person to evaluate her vascular status that night, and blood flow to her leg was significantly diminished when tests were run the next day.

The plaintiff stated that her fall resulted in the injury; however, if they had acted sooner to restore blood flow to her leg, she would not have had to have it amputated. Her expert stated that it was more likely than not that, if blood flow had been restored to her leg in a timely fashion, she would have been able to keep her leg. They eventually attempted to restore blood flow to her leg to save the limb, but on January 11th, 2023, she had her leg amputated above the knee.
