Former FCC Commissioner to Join Berenson & Company as Senior Advisor
NEW YORK, Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Berenson & Company, a leading independent merchant-banking firm, announced today that Robert M. McDowell, the former Commissioner and Senior Member of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will join Berenson as a Senior Advisor. Mr. McDowell joins Berenson in addition to being a Partner in the Communications Practice of Wiley Rein LLP, where he provides legal and public policy advice to an array of clients in the telecommunications, media, technology and digital media industries.
Mr. McDowell was appointed by both President George W. Bush (2006) and Barack Obama (2009), and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate each time, to serve on the Federal Communications Commission. During his seven years as one of the five FCC Commissioners, Mr. McDowell spearheaded the production of policies that directly affected Internet, wireless technologies, broadband competition, communications equipment and devices, radio and satellite services. Prior to his appointment to the FCC, for sixteen years Mr. McDowell served as a senior executive and attorney in the telecommunications industry advising start-up and established companies. He currently serves as a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute's Center for the Economics of the Internet and was appointed in 2013 to the International Panel on Global Internet Cooperation and Governance Mechanisms, chaired by the President of Estonia, Toomas Ilves, and Internet pioneer Vint Cerf.
