Butler will lead Affectiva's continued expansion in delivering consumer emotion insights to media, agencies and brands. The company has set the standard for real-world accuracy and relevance in consumer response, gathering unfiltered and unbiased insights beyond traditional data collection methods. Affectiva's ability to passively collect emotion data through the webcam from an opted-in panelist has proven to be valuable and actionable to global clients. This, along with the highly scalable, cost-effective and rapid turnaround nature of the Affectiva platform, has put the company on pace to analyze nearly 10,000 ads this year – an all time high. Butler will be joining from Merkle, where he led their Media and Entertainment business development team. While there, Tom developed innovative ways of measuring TV promos with set-top box and digital data. Previously, Butler was VP of Audience Development at eXelate, a leader in digital behavioral targeting. Prior to that, he served as the SVP of Sales & Client Services at Nielsen, leading its digital practice working with advertisers, agencies and media publishers to provide digital, social and mobile measurement, and ad effectiveness research. At Nielsen, Tom led many new product developments and subsequent go-to-market launches for several market leading solutions like NetEffect, the Nielsen / Facebook partnership measurement solution, as well as Nielsen's first online video measurement service.
Earlier in his career, Butler led sales efforts at start-up NetRatings, one of the original market leading online measurement services; which had a successful IPO and was acquired by Nielsen in 2007.
