LUNGevity Bow Ties Raise Funds for Critical Lung Cancer Research and Awareness
WASHINGTON, June 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Oriole Bird mascot and FOX Sportscaster Ken Rosenthal will wear signature blue LUNGevity bow ties for the June 13 Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees game in honor of late Major League Baseball family member Monica Barlow. Barlow, the former Baltimore Orioles PR Director, died in February 2014 after a four and a half year battle with lung cancer. This Saturday's game is just eight days after what would have been her 37th birthday. Following her death, the Orioles stepped up in support of LUNGevity, hosting the Breathe Deep Baltimore walk, raising awareness of LUNGevity for MLB's first-ever Strike Out Cancer Day, and engaging the community in LUNGevity initiatives that change outcomes for survivors and help work toward a world where no one dies of lung cancer. Fans at the June 13 Orioles game can visit the LUNGevity booth in the Kid's Corner, near the Camden Yards mural, to take photos with fun Orioles props, including an enormous blue LUNGevity bow tie to match the Oriole Bird's fashion choice for the night. LUNGevity and the Baltimore Orioles encourage fans to share these photos @LUNGevity with the hashtag #Birdland, to ensure that they come up on the Orioles Instagram feed. The booth will also have information about LUNGevity and ways to get involved in the Baltimore walk at Camden Yards in on Saturday, October 3.
