Frankfurt Airport Summer Timetable 2011: More Flights and Substantially More Seats

FRANKFURT, Germany, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Frankfurt Airport's Summer Timetable 2011, which goes into effect on Sunday, March 27, will feature a total of 4,845 departures (passenger and all-freighter flights) per week - a 5.6 percent rise compared to the 2010 summer schedule. The total number of seats being offered this summer will increase by some 8.3 percent to 770,000 seats per week. Frankfurt Airport's Summer Timetable 2011 features 114 passenger airlines serving 298 destinations in 110 countries. With 280,000 seats available on FRA's intercontinental routes - up some five percent - Germany's leading air transportation gateway will account for 64.5 percent of the total seat capacity to be offered on all intercontinental flights this summer by Germany's 16 coordinated commercial airports.

In the intercontinental traffic segment, Condor (DE/CFG) will commence twice weekly service in June 2011, directly to Calgary (YYC), the gateway to the Canadian Rockies, and to Seattle (SEA) in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Recife (REC) on the northeastern coast of Brazil will be added as a new destination to Condor's summer program with one weekly flight from FRA. Lufthansa (LH/DLH) recently launched the Airbus A380 superjumbo on regular scheduled routes to America: starting with daily flights to the Big Apple (New York-JFK), followed by a new daily service to San Francisco (SFO) beginning on May 10. Brazilian carrier TAM (JJ/TAM) will be flying daily between Frankfurt and Rio de Janeiro (GIG), while the Korean metropolis of Seoul (ICN) will also be served by Lufthansa daily. Qatar Airways (QR/QTR) will introduce four additional flights per week to the Gulf region in the Middle East, thus increasing its total number of frequencies to 14 per week. In July 2011, Oman Air (WY/OMA) will fly daily from FRA to Muscat (MCT), Oman.

In the European traffic segment, FRA's Summer Timetable 2011 will include the new destination of Trondheim (TRD) in Norway, flown by Lufthansa. Lufthansa will also expand its route network with connections to Palermo (PMO) on the island of Sicily, to Genoa (GUA) in northern Italy, to Olbia (OLB) on the island of Sardinia, and to Bastia (BIA) in Corsica. Both Condor and Lufthansa will fly to the holiday destination of Split (SPU) on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. In particular, Lufthansa will add 14 frequencies for a total of 67 weekly connections to the EU capital Brussels (BRU) in Belgium, plus 14 additional flights to Basel (BSL), Switzerland, for a total of 41 services per week. Seven extra flights per week with be offered by Lufthansa to the Scandinavian destinations of Bergen (BGO) in Norway, Goteborg (GOT) in Sweden, Helsinki (HEL) in Finland, and Billund (BLL) in Denmark, as well as the Swiss cities of Geneva (GVA) and Zurich (ZRH), and the Austrian capital of Vienna (VIE). Furthermore, the Czech capital of Prague (PRG) and Moscow's Domodedovo (DME) airport will gain seven more flights per week. Spain's Palma de Mallorca (PMI) will be served daily by Lufthansa. On the "racetrack" route to London, Lufthansa will increase the number of flights by 7 to 77 connections per week, while British Airways (BA/BAW) will add 5 more flights for a total of 50 frequencies per week from Frankfurt.

Lufthansa's domestic network via FRA will expand by two destinations this summer: Westerland (GWT) on the North Frisian island of Sylt and Rostock (RLG) on the Baltic Sea will each gain two new weekend flights per week. German routes with the heaviest traffic will see further expansion, too. Flights from FRA to Munich (MUC) will increase by 14 to 98 per week and to Berlin by 6 to 111 connections per week. The Hamburg (HAM) route was already expanded during the winter season by 7 to 107 weekly connections. Frequencies to Duesseldorf (DUS) will rise from 7 to 8 flights per day, while Friedrichshafen (FDH) on Lake Constance will gain one daily connection via FRA.

In the cargo sector, Frankfurt Airport's Summer Timetable 2011 features 29 airlines flying all-freighter services to 78 destinations in 43 countries. The number of all-freighter departures from FRA will climb by 5.6 percent to 250 per week. With 160 intercontinental flights per week, Frankfurt will account for 66.5 percent of all intercontinental freight flights offered this summer season by Germany's 16 coordinated commercial airports.
