From Breakfast To Bedtime, Eggo® Challenges Consumers To Get Creative During "The Great Eggo Waffle Off"

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kellogg's® Eggo® brand is challenging consumers to showcase the versatility of its famous waffles during The Great Eggo Waffle Off! From now until May 13, Eggo, in partnership with Breyers ice cream, invites waffle-lovers to submit their most creative and delicious recipes – for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack or dessert – on Facebook for a chance to win a $5,000 prize.

"We've learned that Eggo fans feature our waffles in dishes that reach far beyond breakfast,"  said Kathleen Piper, Kellogg Company marketing director. "With The Great Eggo Waffle Off! we're celebrating the versatility of the waffle and the creativity of waffle lovers."

Eggo fans can submit their waffle recipes, in the categories of breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner or dessert, along with an image of the dish on the Eggo Facebook page. Each entry will be judged on originality, taste appeal and visual appeal as depicted in the entry photo. Entry is open to U.S. residents, aged 18 and up, and submissions are accepted through June 10. The grand-prize winner will receive $5,000, two runners-up will each receive $2,500 and weekly winners will receive a year's supply of Eggo waffles.

To provide recipe inspiration, Eggo has appointed select food and parenting bloggers as Chief Waffle Officers and has declared April 1-7 the "Week of Waffles." Bloggers will feature a different waffle dish each day that week, chronicling their recipe journey through their blogs, Facebook posts, Tweets, Pins and other social postings to motivate their readers to submit their own recipes in The Great Eggo Waffle Off!  Participating bloggers will be featured at www.facebook.com/Eggo during "Week of Waffles."

Following are recipes, created by the Eggo brand, meant to provide inspiration and ideas for participants: 

Turkey BLT Recipe

Preparation Time: 10 Mins.
Total Time to Serve: 10 Mins | Servings: 1

INGREDIENTS
2 Kellogg's® Eggo® Homestyle waffles
1 tablespoon mayonnaise or reduced-fat mayonnaise (optional)
1 lettuce leaf
2 thin slices tomato
Pepper
2 slices turkey bacon, crisp cooked

DIRECTIONS

1. Prepare KELLOGG'S EGGO Homestyle waffles according to package directions. Lightly spread mayonnaise on one side of each waffle, if desired. Top one of the waffles with lettuce leaf and tomato slices. Lightly sprinkle tomato with pepper. Add bacon slices. Place remaining waffle, mayonnaise side down, on top.
2. Cut sandwich in half. Serve immediately.

Waffle Bee Recipe

Preparation Time: 15 Mins.
Total Time to Serve: 15 Mins | Servings: 1

INGREDIENTS
1 Kellogg's® Eggo® Thick & Fluffy Original waffles
1 scoop (3 tbsp.) Breyers® French Vanilla Ice Cream
1 scoop (2 tbsp.) Breyers® French Vanilla Ice Cream
3 slices fresh mango
2 slices fresh plum
2 Keebler® Grasshopper® cookies
1 dark chocolate candy drop
2 candy-coated chocolate pieces
String licorice

DIRECTIONS

1. Prepare EGGO Thick & Fluffy Original waffle according to package directions. Cool for 10 minutes.
2. Place waffle on small serving plate. Top with the 3 tablespoons scoop of ice cream for bee body. Place the 2 tablespoons scoop of ice cream on waffle for bee head. Alternately place mango and plum slices on bee body. Press KEEBLER GRASSHOPPER cookies into bee body for wings and chocolate drop into bee body for stinger. Place chocolate pieces on bee head for eyes. Press licorice pieces into bee head for antennae. Serve immediately.
