AWF, an organization that seeks to ensure the permanence of wildlife and lands of Africa, wanted to increase awareness of record levels of wildlife poaching in the country. Its goal was to form a base of highly engaged supporters who would take action and donate to the cause.
During a two-week period in July 2013, AWF collected tens of thousands of signatures on two online petitions promoted on the Care2 network. Each signer provided online and mail contact info.
AWF was able to recruit 29,000 new supporters. It then implemented the help of SankyNet, an online marketing agency, to convert Care2 leads into action takers and donors.
The results? AWF saw a 110% return on investment and 2.5% donor conversion in just five months. The organization generated 737 new donors who made an average gift of $36.49. In addition, 32% of new donors made more than one donation.
The response rate for the first appeal to new Care2 supporters was three times the industry benchmark. AWF plans to scale up its online campaigning in the future.
