From Synaptic Digital: Nintendo 3DS Midnight Launch Event at Best Buy Union Square

NEW YORK, March 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, March 26, 2011, Nintendo hosted a midnight launch event at Best Buy's Union Square location in New York to celebrate the U.S. launch of the Nintendo 3DS™ system. Attendees ditched their 3D glasses for good as Nintendo introduced portable entertainment in 3D – without the need for special glasses.

Consumers were treated to entertainment, branded giveaways and hands-on demonstrations of the new system. Attendees participated in a final countdown and tossed 3D glasses into the air at the stroke of midnight to celebrate the arrival of Nintendo 3DS.

Attendees were excited to be among the first U.S. consumers to get their hands on the new system. The first 300 attendees who purchased the system received a special carrying case. They also enjoyed a live in-store performance by one of New York City's hottest bands, The HOTcakes.

The Nintendo 3DS system is now available in Cosmo Black or Aqua Blue at a suggested retail price of $249.99. Consumers can choose from fun games including nintendogs™ + cats, Pilotwings Resort™ and Steel Diver™ from Nintendo, Super Street Fighter® IV 3D Edition from CAPCOM, Madden NFL Football from EA SPORTS, LEGO® Star Wars® III: The Clone Wars™ from LucasArts™ and Asphalt™ 3D from UBISOFT.

The system comes with several pre-installed games and fun features, including the ability to take photos in 2D and 3D. The built-in Face Raiders™ game asks users to shoot at funny depictions of their own photographed faces, while the Mii Maker™ application lets gamers create customized Mii™ characters based on pictures they take with Nintendo 3DS. The system also comes with six AR Cards that can be used to view fun animations in real-world settings.
