General Dynamics Awarded $22 Million to Support New Navy Air and Missile Defense Command
FAIRFAX, Va., March 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded a five-year, $21.8 million task order under the SeaPort-e contract to provide support to the new U.S. Navy Air and Missile Defense Command (NAMDC) at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren in Dahlgren, Va.
General Dynamics will provide subject-matter expertise to support NAMDC in the areas of fleet unit-readiness assessments, training, resource and requirements planning, systems engineering and science and technology experimentation. General Dynamics has supported NAMDC since early 2009 when the command was established as the Navy's lead organization for Naval Joint and Combined Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) matters.
"This award reflects an outstanding partnership of government and industry to help the new U.S. Navy Air and Missile Defense Command define and execute Navy air and missile defense activity," said Bill Cobb, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Information Technology's Combat Systems sector.
"General Dynamics brings demonstrated leadership, experience and proven performance in the air and missile defense domain, having provided solution and support services to NAMDC's predecessor organizations, including the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMD), since the early 1990s. We will bring our experience to bear as we help NAMDC build on the reputation for excellence it has earned in its first year of operation."
NAMDC serves as the single warfare center of excellence to synchronize and integrate Navy efforts across the full spectrum of air and missile defense, including air defense, cruise missile defense and ballistic missile defense. NAMDC supports the chief of naval operations and fleet component commanders by integrating technologies, warfighting concepts and command and control.
