Prestigious award spotlights family-inclusive campuses and initiatives
WASHINGTON, Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Generation Hope is proud to announce the 2025–2028 recipients of the FamilyU Seal, a national certification honoring higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations making significant strides in serving student parents.
This year's FamilyU Seal recipients, chosen through a highly competitive selection process, are:
Higher Education Institutions
- California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo — San Luis Obispo, Calif.
- College Unbound — Providence, R.I.
- Howard Community College — Columbia, Md.
- West Valley College — Saratoga, Calif.
Nonprofit Organizations
- New Legacy Charter School — Aurora, Colo.
- Sunrise County Economic Council — Machias, Maine
One institution and one nonprofit are also being recognized with Exemplar Awards for their outstanding leadership. College Unbound will receive a $25,000 award, and New Legacy Charter School will receive a $15,000 award to support their continued student parent work.
The FamilyU Seal recognizes institutions and organizations that demonstrate exemplary policies, data practices, people strategies, and cultures that support parenting students. By centering student parents, recipients are helping more families achieve college completion and economic mobility. Fast Company named the FamilyU Seal a winner in the Social Equity category of its 2024 World Changing Ideas Awards, underscoring the national significance of this work.
"In order for higher education to spark real stability and prosperity for more families, this movement must continue to grow. We are thrilled to honor these campuses and nonprofits with this prestigious national recognition through the FamilyU Seal program—champions that are elevating student parents and opening true pathways for them to succeed in college and beyond," said Nicole Lynn Lewis, Founder and CEO of Generation Hope.
The FamilyU Seal is awarded for a three-year term. Applications for the 2026 FamilyU Seal will open in May 2026.
