Get Real With Teal This September In Honor of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation (SROCF) will mark National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September with its annual "Get Real With Teal" campaign.

Throughout the month, several iconic buildings in the Greater Philadelphia region including Boat House Row, the National Constitution Center, JFK Plaza Fountain, One Liberty Place and 777 Broad Street, will be illuminated in teal, the official color of ovarian cancer, to help generate support and awareness for the thousands of women and families affected by the disease. This year, 22,000 women of all ages will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, yet there is no single reliable easy-to-administer screening test or cure. With the "Get Real With Teal" campaign, the Foundation aims to raise awareness and bring attention to an important cause.

"We're extremely appreciative of all the support the Greater Philadelphia Region has offered to help raise awareness and funds during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month," said Robin Cohen, co-founder of SROCF. "Considered the fifth leading cause of death among women in the U.S., ovarian cancer affects 1 out of 72 women and mortality rates have continued to be stagnant over 40 years. We want our local communities to be involved with our efforts to give a greater voice to an important cause."

Additional campaign activities will include the Foundation's annual Gala and Silent Auction taking place Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. Hosted by Lauren Hart, the voice of the Philadelphia Flyers and ovarian cancer survivor, this year's gala theme is "Teal Gatsby" and will feature themed fare, musical entertainment and a live auction.
