Givebutter Supports Black Philanthropy Month to Help Nonprofits Bridge Gaps in Funding for Black-Led Organizations

Givebutter provides free fundraising technology and educational tools to participating organizations to help maximize impact for historically underfunded causes and communities

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In the United States, only 1.3% of all philanthropic funding goes to Black communities, down from an all-time high of nearly 2% in 2020, when a national reckoning on racial justice spurred increased commitments to equity. Since then, shifting policies and changing attitudes toward diversity and inclusion have created new barriers for nonprofits working to uplift and empower Black communities.

"Four years ago was the first time in my history that we saw Black-led organizations like Black in Marine Science getting significant amounts of money to do change work, specifically in Black communities. In a reality where nearly three-quarters of Black-led nonprofits struggle to find new donors in today's landscape, stories like Dr. Moore's are too common. For the fourth consecutive year, Givebutter will provide free educational fundraising resources and customer support, as well as donate $10,000 to Black-led nonprofits and organizations that support and uplift Black communities, donating $1,000 each to the top 10 most engaging campaigns of the month.

How Givebutter Helps Nonprofits Connect with Donors in Meaningful Ways During Black Philanthropy Month

Floyd Jones, Founder of BackBlack and Global Chair of Black Philanthropy Month, says the campaign, which takes place annually in August, is meant to bring critical visibility and connection to a community that needs a spotlight. "I notice that people who look like me and represent communities that look like me are often unseen and unsupported," said Jones.

A former Givebutter employee, Jones saw the potential for the Givebutter Gives Back program to solve an important need in helping Black-led nonprofits reach donors through tools that give them increased visibility into their fundraising, more connection to their donors, and the ability to be more responsive and creative with how they engage.
