Governor Rendell Calls House Severance Tax Vote Positive Step Forward

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell issued the following statement tonight in response to the state House of Representatives' vote on legislation that would enact a severance tax on natural gas extraction:

"The action taken by the House tonight is important because it sets the stage for the final adoption of a responsible extraction tax — one that will that ultimately allow for environmental protection, economic development, and a reduction on the strain to local government services.  

"I encourage the House to vote affirmatively on final passage, and urge the Senate to move swiftly to work with the House and develop a compromise that I can sign into law."
