Governor Rendell Orders Flags at Capitol and in Berks County to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Spc. Anthony Vargas
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today ordered all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags in the Capitol Complex and at commonwealth facilities in Berks County to be flown at half-staff in honor of U.S. Army Spc. Anthony Vargas of Reading.
Authorities said Spc. Vargas, 27, was killed Nov. 8 by in an improvised explosive device, or IED, attack in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Flags will remain at half-staff through interment.
