Greg Yorston Becomes Waste Industries' Chief Operating Officer

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Waste Industries USA, Inc. announced today that solid waste operations expert Greg Yorston has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO). He will direct company-wide operations across the Southeast United States and manage all non-accounting processes and procedures for all branches within the Waste Industries footprint.

Formerly the Senior Vice President of Operations at Waste Industries, Mr. Yorston worked closely over the past year with the company's former COO, Harry Habets, to execute an effective and seamless transition upon Mr. Habets' planned retirement for December 31, 2013. Mr. Habets will remain involved with the company as a special projects advisor to the Company's CEO, Ven Poole.

Prior to joining Waste Industries, Mr. Yorston held the position of Corporate Vice President for Operations and Business Solutions for Waste Management following 12 years as an Area Vice President for Waste Management's collection, recycling, and landfill disposal services in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Yorston is only the third person to hold the position of COO since the company's founding in 1970. Since that time, the company has expanded its service area to include Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, managing solid waste and recycling collection for residential, commercial, and industrial customers alike. Waste Industries employs 2,000 people full time, operating over 900 heavy trucks and providing service to over one million customers. The company reported $500 million in revenues in 2013.
