Gresham Smith Celebrates Office Expansion at Southfield Town Center

Firm Has Had a Presence in Detroit Metropolitan Area Since 2023

The new office space, located in the Southfield Town Center, occupies 6,200 square feet on the 28^th floor of the 3000 Town Center building. Designed to accommodate up to 45 employees, the space embraces a hybrid, free address/unassigned workstation model, providing a diverse array of settings catered to meet employees' individual preferences.

Gresham Smith has a longstanding history of serving automotive clients in the greater Detroit area. The firm is currently designing facilities for numerous premier automotive lithium-ion battery manufacturers and suppliers, including Ultium Cells, a joint venture of General Motors and LG Energy Solution; NextStar Energy, a joint venture of Stellantis and LG Energy Solution; L-H Battery Company, a joint venture between Honda and LG Energy Solution; Envision AESC; Duksan Electera America; and LG Chem.

Additionally, Gresham Smith has delivered projects in Michigan for a variety of other clients, including Gerald R. Ford International Airport, Jackson National Life Insurance Company and McLaren Greater Lansing hospital.

The office's grand opening was attended by Gresham Smith's leadership, clients and several key partners, including City of Southfield Mayor Ken Siver, the Detroit Regional Partnership, Oakland County, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

The office is led by Charles Poat, AIA, LEED AP, a vice president who joined the firm's Industrial market in 2023. He has more than 25 years of experience advising clients on high-profile projects, including the Ford Rogue Industrial Complex; the Harley Davidson Sportster Plant and Visitor Center; automated vehicle test track facilities at M-City and Willow Run; and most recently the Ford Global Technology and Business Center Mexico. Charles is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Engineering Society of Detroit, and he previously served as former Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council Detroit Chapter.
