Servitje will discuss investment opportunities in the US and Mexico as well as the new Mexican administration's competitiveness agenda.
Mexico-based Grupo Bimbo is the world's largest bakery with over $12 billion in sales and operations 19 countries; they employ over 500 people in Illinois alone.
In recent years Grupo Bimbo has grown through acquisitions and currently produces iconic brands such as Sara Lee, Entenmann's and Thomas' English Muffins.
Unlike most American companies who are investing heavily international markets, Grupo Bimbo plans to invest $1 billion in the U.S. by 2015.
With costs rising in Asia, Mexico is becoming a more attractive place for Illinois-based companies to do business. Trade between Illinois and Mexico totalled $15.5 billion in 2012.
"Daniel Servitje is a true global leader. Not only has he grown Grupo Bimbo to be the largest bakery in the world, but he also distinguished himself by chairing the World Economic Forum in Latin America and speaking at the G20," said Ilene Gordon, Chairman, President and CEO of Ingredion Incorporated and Executives' Club of Chicago Director.
Each year, The Executives' Club honors an individual whose exemplary leadership has resulted in significant contributions to his/her company and to the global business community with the International Executive of the Year Award. Past honorees include Bill Gates, Chairman and CEO Microsoft Corporation; Dan Akerson, Chairman and CEO of General Motors and Samuel J. Palmisano, Chairman, President and CEO, IBM Corporation.
"Like Mr. Servitje, past honorees have led global companies; however, this year, for the first time, we are delighted to present this award to a non-U.S. executive," said Gordon.
