Hach & Rose, LLP secures $12.8 million dollar jury verdict for worker injured by negligent construction

NEW YORK, May 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- New York law firm Hach & Rose, LLP secured a $12.8 million dollar verdict this week led by the trial team of Michael Rose and David Cheverie.  The victim suffered a severe neck injury as a result of a negligently installed door closing mechanism.  The contractors hired to construct a new wing of a major New York hospital did not use the proper materials.  This caused the door closing mechanism to fall on the head of a security officer while she was passing through the doorway. 

The trial lasted six weeks because the construction companies would not accept responsibility and claimed they were following the instructions of the architect.  After the liability phase of the trial the jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes before finding the defendants completely responsible.  Senior partner and lead trial attorney Michael Rose stated:  "It was gratifying to see that our presentation was so clear to the jury that they did not need much time to find the defendant's responsible."

Following the liability portion of the case the jury then needed to determine damages.  Experts called by the plaintiff included a neurosurgeon, pain management doctor, economist and life care planner.  The jury returned a verdict in excess of $12,800,000.  Items of damage awarded for the plaintiff included medical expenses, lost wages, loss of social security benefits and conscious pain and suffering.
