Hair Fairies Opens Newest Salon in Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty years ago, Hair Fairies CEO Maria Botham began waging her personal war against an enemy that can withstand a nuclear bomb – head lice. This month, Hair Fairies and its holistic approach to lice treatment are proclaiming victory with the opening of their newest salon in downtown Pasadena.

Hair Fairies began with a seemingly simple question, but one that had confounded traditional lice treatment shampoo companies – how to get rid of head lice effectively, using non-toxic products. As a mother and an experienced product developer, Maria Botham understood that while parents don't want to see head lice on their children's heads, they especially don't want to see nuclear war being waged on their tender scalps. She had a mission: "I've always been an entrepreneur and have experience and know-how in developing other concepts, so I got to thinking if I could create an effective methodology that manually removed head lice with an all-natural product to aid...I'd having something great!" she testifies.

Maria worked hard developing her product ("twelve hours a day, seven days a week for three years!"), and discovered the winning formula - a combination of manual removal paired with non-toxic treatment to safely and permanently eradicate the pesky mites. Armed with nothing but a van and a plan, Maria literally took her show on the road with an in-home mobile treatment business, snuffing out head lice wherever she went.

The successful mobile business proved to be a perfect testing ground for refining her product. Maria was able to collect live-specimen on the job and bring them directly to chemists in clinical trials to find exactly the right formula. The mobile business expanded, and she opened her first head lice treatment salon in 1999. "I opened the first Hair Fairies in Los Angeles knowing my dream and vision was not just one or two but 300! If not more," she says.

Today, the Hair Fairies Pasadena location becomes the newest addition to the largest network of lice-removal salons in the nation. They have served hundreds of thousands of clients since their first salon opened, and still offer the convenient mobile service that started it all.
