Halifax Humane Society Launches "Neuter Scooter for a Nickel" to Celebrate 90 Years of Lifesaving Impact

Male cat neuter surgeries available for just 5 cents from April 1 through June 30

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., April 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Halifax Humane Society is putting the pedal down on pet overpopulation with a fast, fun, and high-impact promotion: "Neuter Scooter for a Nickel." From April 1 through June 30, male cat neuter surgeries will be available for just five cents at the Halifax Humane Society Spay & Neuter Clinic. Un-owned community cat surgeries are available on Wednesdays, and pet cat surgeries are available on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the Halifax Humane Society Spay & Neuter Clinic, 600 Mason Avenue, Suite #150, Daytona Beach, FL 32117. 

Appointments for male cat neuter surgeries are required and must be made online by visiting https://www.halifaxhumanesociety.org/spay-neuter-clinic. Community cats (feral cats) must arrive in a humane box trap for Wednesday surgery. Pet cats (owned cats) must arrive in sturdy plastic carriers Thursday to Saturday for their surgery.

This limited-time initiative is designed to help Halifax Humane Society reach an ambitious goal—900 male cat neuters—as the organization prepares to celebrate its 90th anniversary of serving animals and the community.

The five-cent special includes:

• Neuter surgery
• Post-operative pain medication
• Rabies vaccination
• Microchip for owned cats
• Ear tip for community cats

Additional services—including vaccinations, testing, and flea prevention—will be available at the time of surgery for an additional cost.

To meet the increased demand, Halifax Humane Society has added 10 additional surgery appointments per day during the three-month promotion.

"Neutering male cats is a relatively quick, noninvasive procedure," said Sean Hawkins, CAWA, CFRE, Chief Executive Officer of Halifax Humane Society. "Because of this—and thanks to our highly trained veterinary team—we can safely accommodate additional surgeries each day. By focusing on male cats, we can immediately reduce the number of unwanted kitten births and make a meaningful impact on animal homelessness in our community."

Unneutered male cats are a primary driver of pet overpopulation, contributing to large numbers of unplanned litters. By making this essential procedure more accessible than ever, Halifax Humane Society is taking a proactive, solutions-focused approach to preventing animal homelessness before it begins.

Space is limited, and appointments are expected to fill quickly. Community members are encouraged to schedule early and take advantage of this unique opportunity.
