Hampton University's 43rd Annual Conference on the Black Family to Champion Legacy, Leadership & Economic Power

HAMPTON, Va., March 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Center for Black Family Life at Hampton University, in collaboration with the School of Liberal Arts and Education, proudly presents the 43rd Annual Conference on the Black Family, taking place March 19–21. This year's theme, " From Chaos to Community: Elevating Black Families – Actualizing the Vision of the Beloved Community" will provide a transformative forum for exploring strategies that empower Black families to build wealth, strengthen communities, and preserve cultural legacies.

For over four decades, Hampton University's Conference on the Black Family has stood as a premier national forum, shaping the dialogue on Black family life, resilience, and progress. As one of the longest-running and most influential conferences of its kind, it has brought together renowned scholars, policymakers, and thought leaders to drive meaningful change, empower communities, and inspire future generations. Its legacy of impact continues to illuminate pathways to economic empowerment, leadership, and cultural preservation. The 2025 event will feature powerful plenary sessions, panel discussions, and workshops on the following:

• Wealth Building and Financial Literacy – Addressing strategies for homeownership, investing, and entrepreneurship within Black communities.
• Faith and Family – Exploring the intersection of spirituality, mental health, and family stability.
• Educational Access and Achievement – Discussing pathways to higher education, student success, and overcoming systemic barriers.
• Black Fatherhood and Positive Male Influence – Highlighting the role of Black fathers, mentors, and male figures in shaping strong family foundations.
• Health Disparities and Family Well-Being – Tackling issues such as maternal health, mental wellness, and healthcare equity in Black communities.

A signature moment of the conference will be the honoring of RaaShaun "DJ Envy" and Gia Casey for their contributions to mental health advocacy, financial literacy and economic empowerment in Black communities. Through their efforts in real estate investment education and community outreach, the Caseys have inspired families nationwide to build generational wealth and break cycles of financial hardship.

The conference will feature keynote addresses from distinguished scholars and business leaders:

• Hampton Trustee Derek Lewis, author of "Survive + Advance: Lessons on Living a Life Without Compromise," former PepsiCo executive and entrepreneur, is a champion for education, corporate leadership, and economic mobility within Black communities.
• Rev. Dr. DeForest Soaries, author, nationally recognized faith leader and former New Jersey Secretary of State, is known for his work in financial empowerment and community-building.
