Hard Work and Kind Hearts Shape a Bright Future for Engineers
Lockheed Martin and Sandia employees honored at annual HENAAC engineering conference
BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Three employees from Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and two from Sandia National Laboratories were honored at the annual Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC) for their professional contributions and community outreach.
The awards were presented on Oct. 16 at HENAAC 2015, hosted by Great Minds in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in Pasadena, California.
"These five individuals have demonstrated tremendous dedication to their professions and are an inspiration to the next generation of STEM innovators," said Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Marillyn Hewson. "I join their colleagues from across Lockheed Martin and Sandia in applauding their accomplishments."
Jason Brooks earned HENAAC's Professional Achievement Award. He came to Lockheed Martin in 2002 and established a reputation as a skilled engineer and a committed leader. His current role supports the F-35 Lightning II program, where he leads teams to reduce program costs and meet contract deadlines. Brooks has also actively mentored fellow employees and aspiring engineers in his local community for over 20 years.
Joel Johnson received the 2015 Information Technology Award. He leads Lockheed Martin's Computer Incident Response Team to preserve Lockheed Martin's network integrity while collaborating across industry and with government partners to address emerging cybersecurity concerns. Johnson is also a diversity and inclusion champion and a founding member of Lockheed Martin's Hispanic Leadership Council.
Adriana Santos won HENAAC's Luminary Award. Santos was born, raised and educated in Puerto Rico and joined Lockheed Martin in 2012 as an operations engineer. In 2014, she began a master's program and was selected for the corporation's Operations Leadership Development Program. Santos has made her mark as an up-and-coming leader within the company and has traveled across the states and to her native Puerto Rico for recruiting events.
Patrick Sena and Abraham Ellis, both of Sandia National Laboratories, were also recognized at HENAAC 2015. Sena, the deputy chief engineer for Sandia's Stockpile Systems Center, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Ellis, the manager of Photovoltaic and Distributed Systems at Sandia, received the Technical Achievement Award. Sena and Ellis are passionate volunteers who give back to their communities by promoting the importance of STEM at local schools.
