Haunted Halloween Happenings Offer Spooky Fun
CHICAGO, Oct. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Across the country, cities are brewing up a cauldron of spirited Halloween happenings. The travel experts at The GO Group, LLC, the nation's largest airport ground transportation company, have conjured this list of spook-tacular events:
Even the Boston Strangler would be afraid of the city's Old Town Trolley Ghosts and Gravestones Tour. The gravediggers aboard the ghoulish trolley will take passengers through such haunts as a 400 year-old burial grounds, where tales will be told of grave-robbing, tortures, punishments, executions and even some of folks being buried alive. On October 24 the Chicago Cultural Mile Association is launching The Halloween Gathering, an all-day festival and nighttime parade. From 2 – 6 p.m. families can enjoy activities such as mask-making workshops and a children's costume parade in Maggie Daley Park. The parade kicks off at 6 p.m. at Columbus and heads south. Attendees can expect extravagant spectacles, costumes, moving platforms and more, created by many of the city's cultural institutions and artists. Braver souls can take a chilling nighttime outing through downtown with Absolutely Chicago Segway Tours' Haunted Halloween Tour or Steve's Segway Tours' Haunted Chicago Tour, both leading deep into the world of ghouls, gangsters, disasters and unexplainable deaths.
Indianapolis' premier scary amusement park is Hanna Haunted Acres, a collection of haunted hayrides, horror tours, corn mazes and more. Open at dark, the attraction is located less than eight miles from downtown. The season opens on Sep. 25 and runs through Nov. 1.
One of the most haunted cities in America, New Orleans is home to many haunted hotels and bars and historic sites and graveyards. Amp up the fear factor by taking a walking tour through the haunted French Quarter or one of the area's older cemeteries such as St. Louis Cemetery or Metairie. Celebrate with be-costumed revelers and masterful floats by attending the The Krewe of Boo, the city's official Halloween parade on October 24 at 6:30 p.m.
Brave the seas and experience San Francisco's Annihilation at Ghost Ship, Oct. 30 – 31, at pier 70 in the Dogpatch neighborhood. The event features original installations from local artists which in the past have included a Victorian-era Ghost Ship, a 1930's cruise ship, an alien space craft hovering over a zombie ghost town and a massive nuclear submarine. Live bands and DJs will make sure this party won't be dead.
