FAIRFIELD, Iowa, Oct. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hawthorne Direct, an award-winning, data-driven agency that is the leader in determining and facilitating media ROI, is pleased to announce that the company is hosting its inaugural data science seminar for 2015-2016, with the first event taking place Friday, October 23, 2015. The series will focus on introductory and advanced concepts in data science and provide an overview of advances in software tools for effectively producing data insights.
Hawthorne's seminars are must-attend events for media and advertising professionals who want to use the influx of big data and new technologies to generate ROI. People outside of the media and advertising industries who wish to stay abreast of data science trends can also attend to learn about new strategies that are upending traditional methods of generating returns through targeted messaging.
People can attend the seminars in person at Hawthorne or review the sessions remotely. Hawthorne will send invitations for remote attendees who register in advance. All seminars in the series will also be recorded, and videos will be available for viewing later on the Hawthorne Direct website.
Dr. Stephen Kelley, Vice President of Hawthorne's Data Science Department said, "This seminar series keeps Hawthorne on the leading edge of Data Science, in collaboration with the Data Science community, and provides a channel for people to learn about the breakthroughs Hawthorne is pioneering using Data Science to quantify advertising ROI."
The first seminar takes place on October 23 from 2-3 p.m. Central Time at Hawthorne Direct's Midwest Office and features Dr. Daniel Rice, principal at Rice Analytics in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Rice's presentation is entitled, "Very Focal Targeted Marketing from Very Big Data: SkyRELR as a New Telescope into Market Behavior." The session will provide an overview of the Reduced Error Logistic Regression (RELR) method pioneered by Rice Analytics, which is widely used in targeted marketing and media applications.
The review of RELR will focus on the unique advantages of this advanced analytics methodology in big data and will include an example of how a simple, one-sentence targeted marketing story can be told using RELR from big bank marketing data captured during the 2008-2010 financial crisis. During the session, Dr. Rice will demonstrate the SkyRELR web product that can be accessed worldwide, 24/7, on-demand through the Amazon cloud to create similar simple and effective focal targeted marketing from very large datasets.
The second seminar in the series will take place on November 20 and feature Jeffrey Schwartz, who is presenting, "Integrating Knowledge and Data within Data Science Initiatives." On December 18, Lacey Asplund will present, "The Importance of Interactive Visual Data Exploration." Other topics and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
