Health & Fitness Startup 8fit Announces New CEO and Additions to Leadership Team
Seasoned professionals bolster People & Culture, Engineering teams
BERLIN, Sept. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Fitness and health startup 8fit announced today that Aina Abiodun, formerly VP of Brand & Creative, is stepping into the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Berlin-based startup as the company surges past 20 million users. Former CEO and cofounder Pablo Villalba will remain on the Board of Directors. The company is also adding two seasoned executives to the Leadership Team: Lene-Louise Steenfat, who joins 8fit as Vice President of People & Culture, and Peter Minev, who will serve as the Vice President of Engineering. Each brings more than 15 years of experience in their respective fields to the 4-year-old company.
Aina Abiodun is a co-founder of StoryCode and was previously Director of Strategy and Innovation at New York-based Matter Unlimited, a Cannes Lion and Clio award-winning agency. Over the course of her career, she's developed brand and strategy for companies including The Obama Foundation, Facebook, Merck, Novartis & Rockefeller Foundation, and Mattel, and plans to bring her empathy- and mission-driven approach to 8fit as the company enters its next phase of growth and product development.

Prior to 8fit, Steenfat spent the last 6 years in leadership positions for Oberlo (acquired by Shopify), and SCADA. She's tasked with helping the company refine and scale its internal culture and continue to grow the team, which has doubled in size since 2017. 8fit's current 80+ employee base represents 30 nationalities, is 51% female, and is primarily based in the Berlin headquarters.
Minev most recently was the Director of Engineering of Careem R&D Center and previously held senior roles at VMWare and SAP. He was also co-founder and CTO of Hapni.BG. He'll work together with CTO and co-founder Pedro Solà to continue to build the simplest, most effective way to achieve health via app.
Together, these senior hires signal the company's next phase of growth as the 8fit team continues its work to bring digital health and wellness solutions to its more than 20M users worldwide.
