Cain Leads Romney in Twitter Valuation and is Poised to Pass Him in Followers

Bachmann Drops to Last Place

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Qorvis Communications, one of the fastest-growing integrated communications firms in the U.S., today released its monthly Twitter Valuation Analysis for the 2012 presidential campaign, with a special emphasis on the social media footprint of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain.

Cain leads Romney in the overall value of their Twitter accounts, $20,075 to $19,501. While Romney has a slight lead over Cain in followers, Cain's account tweets more than three times as frequently, which means greater communication with his followers. Cain has the fastest-growing Twitter account of all the candidates, and if current trends continue he will pass Romney in followers by the end of November.

"Cain's prolific tweeting makes his account more valuable than Romney's," said Wyeth Ruthven, a senior director at Qorvis Communications and author of the Twitter Valuation Analysis. "The fact that Ron Paul has eclipsed Rick Perry and Rick Santorum has surpassed Michelle Bachmann is further indication that those campaigns have lost momentum."

Among the announced candidates for president, Georgia businessman Herman Cain saw the largest percentage gains in followers since the previous Twitter Valuation Analysis on October 1. Cain increased his number of followers by 68 percent in the past month, while Romney increased his by 32.82 percent. This is the second month in a row that Cain has had the fastest-growing Twitter account.

Qorvis compared the number of followers and frequency of tweets for President Barack Obama and the eight leading Republican presidential candidates. The number of followers and frequency of tweets were used to calculate an estimated number of impressions generated by each campaign Twitter account in the month of October. Qorvis compared the metrics of these Twitter accounts with the cost of a direct mail or online advertising campaign of a similar size and reach to calculate the monetary value of each campaign Twitter account.
