Explores a New Dawn Through Japanese Kimono Textiles and Contemporary Menswear

NEW YORK, Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- New York fashion brand HIROMI ASAI will present its Spring/Summer 2027 Men's Collection, "Akatsuki — Before the Dawn," at New York Fashion Week on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Since 2017, designer Hiromi Asai has collaborated with Japanese Kimono artisans to transform traditional textile craftsmanship into sophisticated contemporary menswear. Asai first presented authentic Kimonos at New York Fashion Week in 2016 and has since developed a distinctive approach to menswear rooted in the beauty and craftsmanship of Kimono.

COLLECTION THEME
"Akatsuki — Before the Dawn" is inspired by the quiet moment when a long night begins to give way to the first signs of light. Akatsuki is a Japanese word for the time just before dawn — when the world is still dark and the sun has yet to appear, but a new day is already beginning beyond the horizon.

The eight-look collection follows this transition, moving from deep navy, charcoal and earthy tones to soft whites and luminous neutrals. Working with Japanese Kimono artisans in Tango, one of Japan's historic silk-weaving regions, HIROMI ASAI developed new textiles specifically for the collection. Many feature nuitori, a traditional technique in which decorative threads are woven into the fabric to create richly textured patterns. The fabrics are shaped into refined modern silhouettes, bringing Japanese textile craftsmanship into a contemporary setting.

At the heart of the collection is kacho-fugetsu, the Japanese appreciation of nature and the changing seasons. Alongside these nature-inspired motifs, the textiles range from bold panther patterns and graphic checks to traditional auspicious designs. As dawn approaches, nature awakens and life begins to stir. The collection captures this fleeting moment between darkness and light, with a quiet sense of hope for the new day ahead.
