TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - Paul Straus, President and CEO of Home Hardware Stores Limited, helped Home Hardware Dealers from across Canada celebrate Home Hardware Blue Jays Fan Appreciation Day by presenting a cheque for $250,000 to Special Olympics Canada and a cheque for $185,000 to SickKids Foundation (SickKids) during the game at the Rogers Centre on Sunday, September 30, 2012.
The cheque for Special Olympics Canada was presented to Arthur Rea, a Special Olympics Gold Medal Athlete and Tom Wright, Special Olympics Canada Board of Directors and will go towards the organization's goal of enriching the lives of Canadians with intellectual disabilities through sport. The cheque for SickKids Foundation was presented to Sierra Polifemi, SickKids Patient Ambassador and Sarah Bywater, Development Officer from SickKids and will go to supporting research in health and scientific advances to improve the lives of children in Canada.
Paul Straus threw the ceremonial first pitch to get the Blue Jays' game versus the New York Yankees underway.

In addition to the cheque presentations and ceremonial first pitch, several other elements are included in Home Hardware Fan Appreciation Day. The first 20,000 fans to arrive at the Rogers Centre received a t-shirt presented by Home Hardware and nine lucky fans won the shirts off the backs of the Blue Jays players.
