Homes for Our Troops Will Hold 10 Build Brigades for Severely Injured Veterans in Seven US Towns During the Month of April

TAUNTON, Mass., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Homes for Our Troops founder John Gonsalves has announced that the national non-profit organization will hold 10 Build Brigades throughout the United States during the month of April to build specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan. Three of the Build Brigades will be held at the same time, in the same town and in the same development where three severely injured veterans who fought for our country will soon become neighbors.

From Bakersfield, CA to Wellington FL; from Columbia, MO to McComb, MS; from Clarksville, TN to Elizabeth, CO; and from Marion, TX to Marion, KS the sound of hammers, the site of countless volunteers and the smell of good cooking will demonstrate the I-CAN in AmerICAN.

Homes for Our Troops will be building specially adapted homes for the following severely injured veterans:

• Army SSG Robert Canine deployed to Baghdad returned a double amputee. His specially adapted home will be built in Marion, KS April 12-14 (see: www.homesforourtroops.org/canine)

A Homes for Our Troops Build Brigade is a three-day construction blitz when professional tradespeople volunteer their time, skills and materials to get the house framed, install doors, windows, siding and roof to make it weather tight.

Since its inception in 2004 Homes for Our Troops has completed 57 specially adapted homes. It usually has more than 30 homes in various stages of construction throughout the United States each year. It takes about six months to complete a home once ground has been broken to the presentation of the Keys to the veteran. The average cost of each home is about $330,000 depending upon location. The homes are presented at no cost to severely injured veterans thanks to generous support from sponsors, professional tradespeople, foundation grants and community minded volunteers.
