How Personal Legal Representation Is Changing the Timeshare Exit Model

"Sharing a name with a law firm, employing attorneys or advertising that lawyers are involved does not by itself establish personal representation," Newton said. "Consumers should read the actual agreement and determine exactly what legal relationship is being created."
The issue matters because choosing an exit provider can itself create significant risk.
The ongoing Newton Group Timeshare Exit Study, which has examined more than 10,000 timeshare ownership experiences, found that 55% of respondents reported failing at least once in an attempt to exit their timeshare. Among those who failed, more than one in four said the exit company they hired was the reason.
"The consumer already had to trust a salesperson once when buying the timeshare," Newton said. "The answer should not be asking them to blindly trust another salesperson when trying to get out."
