The Poynter NewsU Certificate Program is designed to help editors, publishers, communications professionals and educators assess a participant's understanding of the journalism industry's essential skills and best practices. In addition, the certificates also can be used by individuals interested in enhancing their skills and demonstrating a level of proficiency.
"We are excited to be leveraging the professional resources of The Poynter Institute," remarked Bethlee McLaughlin, senior vice president for quality and partner relations at HSN. "The NewsU learning modules are a great way to support the continuous growth and development needs of HSN's writing and editing staff, while positioning HSN's curated assortment of exclusive products and top name brands in the most effective way possible."
HSN will use the certificate program to further develop the skills of its writers and editors by utilizing NewsU's e-learning modules. This program will supplement initial instruction provided to the group by Roy Peter Clark, Poynter's vice president and senior scholar, and Reporting, Writing and Editing faculty. Clark designed the workshop based upon his book "Writing Tools: 50 Essential Strategies for Every Writer" and focused the discussions and activities on the unique writing techniques applicable in the electronic retail industry.
"We are delighted to be working with HSN to provide our journalism-based training to HSN staff members. It's an exciting opportunity for Poynter to use its e-learning courses on NewsU to help writers and editors in a different industry," said Howard Finberg, director of interactive learning at The Poynter Institute.
