HTD's New Documentary, Rooted in Craft, Earns a Feature Q&A in Furniture Today

CEO Hank Cravey talks candor, craftsmanship, and what's next for the Mango Foundation with Editor Emeritus Ray Allegrezza — as the film picks up two nominations at the Austin Spotlight Film Festival.

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Home Trends & Design (HTD) has released Rooted in Craft, a new documentary filmed on location in Rajasthan, India between January and May of this year, taking viewers into the factories, foundries and quarries behind the company's handmade furniture. The film's release caught the attention of Furniture Today, which published a feature Q&A with HTD CEO Hank Cravey on September 1 — HTD's own way, as the piece is titled, of telling the company's story.

Where much of the industry favors evenly lit studio shots, Rooted in Craft takes a fly-on-the-wall approach inside working factories — following the artisans behind the joinery, the foundry behind the cast-iron, and the quarry behind the marble.

Rooted in Craft is now screening at the Austin Spotlight Film Festival, where it has been nominated for Best Director and Best Documentary, with additional domestic and international screenings planned. HTD says the momentum behind the film is also pointing the company toward its next chapter: expanding the work of its Mango Foundation, including new tree-planting efforts and testing for clean drinking water in the communities where HTD works.
