ICIS Top 100 Chemical Companies Revealed

NEW YORK and LONDON, September 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

ICIS Chemical Business magazine has released its annual ICIS Top 100 Chemical Companies, a global listing of producers ranked by 2014 sales.

Topping the list again is Germany's BASF with $90.0bn in revenues, followed by China's Sinopec at #2 with $68.9bn and US-based Dow Chemical at #3 with $58.2bn. US-based ExxonMobil Chemical with $56.4bn in sales comes in at #4, followed by Saudi Arabia-based SABIC at #5 with $50.1bn in sales.

Currency conversions to US dollars for the ranking were based on year-end 2014 exchange rates.

The ICIS Top 100 Chemical Companies raised their sales by an average 3.7% in 2013 compared with 2012.

"It was a challenging year, especially for top-line growth," said Joseph Chang, Global Editor of ICIS, "Companies not only faced a severe decline in crude oil prices, but also currency headwinds from the strong US dollar as results are translated to US dollars."

Even in local currencies, the Top 10 companies grew sales by just 1.5% on average in 2014, noted Nigel Davis, ICIS Insight editor.

"The ICIS Petrochemical Index (IPEX), which reflects price movements for a basket of 12 major petrochemicals and polymers, fell by 17% between August and December 2014," Davis said.

The ICIS Top 100 Chemical Companies runs over three consecutive weekly issues.

The 14 September issue of ICIS Chemical Business will break out the geographic leaders in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East & Africa.

And the ICIS Company of the Year based on financial metrics will be revealed in the 21 September issue.
