ICSA Labs Launches Windows 10 Certification Testing for Anti-Virus Products
First Round of Products Receive Certification
MECHANICSBURG, Pa., Dec. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The growth of malicious software continues to be an increased security threat to consumers. To help mitigate the risk, ICSA Labs is providing testing for anti-virus products on the Microsoft® Windows® 10 operating system.
Products and services certified by the ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Product Certification testing program help defend consumers from becoming infected by in-the-wild and other computer malware.
In its first round of testing, four products successfully passed ICSA Labs Windows 10 Certification, including:
- Ahnlab, Inc. - Ahnlab V3 Internet Security 9.0
- Avast Software - Avast Free Antivirus
- Microsoft Corporation - System Center Endpoint Protection (Defender)
- Sophos Ltd - Sophos Endpoint Protection
All products were tested on Windows 10 64-bit which incorporates multiple security and usability enhancements over previous versions of the Windows operating system. Additionally, Microsoft achieved certification against the secondary Cleaning module.
"The primary responsibility of any anti-virus product is to keep malware from infecting the user's computers," said Gregory Wasson, program manager, ICSA Labs. "Our security testing program confirms that these products meet stringent criteria for delivering essential security protection for computers. It also requires product developers to maintain certification."
Vendors can elect testing for 32-bit and/or 64-bit systems and for both desktop/server detection and anti-virus cleaning.
ICSA Labs' Anti-Virus Product Certification program is the security industry's central anti-virus product testing and certification facility. To attain ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Certification, the Certification Candidate must satisfy all criteria elements in one of the primary modules which are the Desktop Server Anti-Virus Detection; Gateway Anti-Virus Detection; Groupware Anti-Virus Detection; and Managed Services - Application Service Provider (ASP) Anti-Virus Detection. Testing against a secondary module, such as the Cleaning module and Malicious URL Testing, is optional.
ICSA Labs has been testing anti-virus software for 25 years and has extensive experience helping anti-virus product developers address potential threats through its product certification programs.
