According to a March 2019 New Article in the Chicago Tribune, "Illinois State Police have experienced a recent and deadly spike in incidents where a squad car parked with lights flashing has been struck by a passing vehicle. There have been 12 such accidents so far this year, according to state police figures — more than all of last year.
"Most of the crashes occurred when it was dark outside, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to the police agency. Previous years saw far fewer cases, with eight in 2018, 12 in 2017 and five in 2016." https://flipboard.com/@chicagotribune/drivers-have-crashed-into-illinois-state-police-squad-cars-12-times-since-januar/a-ViRl6uYlRF6OprCqLQMktQ%3Aa%3A56578555-9b22cd33e1/chicagotribune.com
