LAS VEGAS, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Some of the world's leading clinicians and researchers will meet in Las Vegas this week to explore breaking new barriers in the area of spinal cord injury (SCI) medicine.
The Annual Meeting of the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (The Academy) brings together physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and therapists, providing a unique interdisciplinary opportunity to network and share ideas for SCI clinicians. Taking place over three days, the Annual Meeting is a venue to develop, refine and improve interdisciplinary approaches for quality health care for people living with SCI.
The Academy and the Annual Meeting are supported by Paralyzed Veterans of America, the veterans service and disability rights organization. The Annual Meeting is made possible through the sponsorship of Academy Industry Roundtable Partner, Allergan, Inc. and other generous supporters.
"Our 2010 Annual Meeting showcases basic scientific research and standards of clinical practice spanning medical treatment, rehabilitation and community living. Professionals from the public and private sectors have an opportunity to learn from each other in our multidisciplinary conference," said Academy President Dr. Terrie Price.
This year's program will focus on topics as diverse as: advances in spinal cord medicine, patient care initiatives, evidence-based practice, ethics, and new research findings. Participants can earn more than twenty continuing education units throughout the course of the Annual Meeting.

With the tagline "Many Minds, One Vision," the Academy was created in 2009 as a new interdisciplinary force for quality health care for people living with SCI. It is composed of public and private health care professionals:

- Providing world-class networking and continuing medical education opportunities, and publications for professionals in the field and others interested in SCI.
- Advocating for better access to comprehensive lifelong quality health care for all SCI patients and for more public, policymaker, and philanthropic awareness of the challenges facing SCI patients and professionals alike.
"For those of us that live with spinal cord injury, the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals is the 'brain trust' that we look to for advancements in quality health care," said Academy Executive Director Maurice L. Jordan, himself a wheelchair user and Deputy Executive Director of Paralyzed Veterans of America.
