Indra Implements Cutting-Edge Smartcard Technology for Metro St. Louis

MIAMI, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Indra, Spain's premier IT company and European multinational was awarded a multi-million dollar contract to implement cutting edge contactless smart card ticketing technology on the Metro St. Louis bus and light rail networks.

Metro owns and operates the St. Louis metropolitan region's public transportation system, carrying over 53 million passengers throughout 200 municipalities in Missouri and Illinois.

Indra will design and implement a contactless ticketing system for the St. Louis light rail and bus networks covering 37 stations and nearly 70 bus routes. Indra will also upgrade the current systems to include new automatic ticket dispensing, cancellation and validation systems to replace older equipment.

All systems will be integrated in the control center also set up by Indra, allowing expedited processing of the information related to the exploitation and management of the network and to simplify maintenance of the systems.  

Account Based System - Innovative pricing solution for Metropolitan Cities

Indra will also implement its Account Based System, an innovative pricing solution that determines the best fare for the individual traveler. This type of pricing is the future of the ticketing solutions for large metropolitan cities and Indra is one of the first companies to develop this type of system.

The project will include a web portal for each regional operator so that users can buy, add value, and report lost or stolen contactless smartcards, among other operations, enabling Metro St. Louis to benefit from fraud reduction, reduced operating costs, and improved information on trips made.
